Dealing with Your Anxiety Disorders Symptoms

Anxiety is a normal emotion amongst humans especially when your life is stressful. You may feel anxious about the results of an important exam or an interview. You may suffer from anxiety before a public performance or a private discussion. You may become apprehensive about the health condition of a loved one.

All of these are very normal but when your anxiety interferes with your daily life, makes it hard to sustain relationships and adds unwarranted stress in life, then you may be suffering from anxiety disorders symptoms. This time, you cannot dismiss them as easily as butterflies in your stomach.

Feeling Abnormal Emotions

When we say abnormal feelings of anxiety, we mean negative emotions, fears and thoughts that never seem to abate, never appear to go away or never give warning signs before becoming full-blown. And lest you add another source of anxiety, be assured that anxiety disorders are generally manageable with the right medications, behavioral therapy and lifestyle changes.

But first, you must be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder like obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. All of these disorders have common symptoms that include:

  • Constant anxiety about certain things, be it real or perceived, large or small
  • Feelings of restlessness even upon sufficient number of hours sleep
  • Unexplained fatigue, lack of concentration, and irritability
  • Physical aches, pains and tension even during hours of rest and relaxation
  • weating and shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and constipation

You will observe that these anxiety disorders symptoms appear similar to the signs of other diseases. Thus, your doctor will rule out any other physical illnesses before considering an anxiety disorder.

Getting Your Life Back To Normal

As previously mentioned, it is possible to get your life back into a more normal mode. This means that you can perform your daily tasks, sustain your relationships and relax because your abnormal levels of anxiety are under control.

Your doctor's first line of defense is to prescribe lifestyle changes since these are the least invasive, in a manner of speaking, not to mention the most beneficial to overall health. Said advice will include changing to a healthy diet, engaging in moderate exercise, getting rest and sleep, and adopting a healthy lifestyle especially the avoidance of cigarettes and alcohol. The last two substances are stimulants and, thus, can lead to the worsening of the anxiety disorders symptoms.

Plus, there is also the fact that more and more sufferers from anxiety disorders are children and teens. Medical society has a bias in favor of children and teens not being exposed to medications during the early stages of the anxiety disorder. Instead, lifestyle changes and behavioral therapy are the preferred courses of action.

And speaking of behavioral therapy, the most effective so far is cognitive behavioral therapy that aims to change how the person perceives the source of anxiety. Only psychologists and psychiatrists are experienced to perform said therapy. It must be noted that only the psychiatrists are authorized to prescribe the medications required in the management of anxiety disorders symptoms, said medicines of which can include anti-depressants.

With these options, you can definitely deal with your anxiety disorder. But first consult your doctor about your symptoms before jumping to conclusions.
