Can Panic Attacks be Treated?
When it comes to the question "Can panic attacks be treated?" I am a believer that treatment can make a world of difference based on my own experiences.
I found that panic attacks were a bewildering experience where you don't really know or understand what a panic attack is, and seeking treatment really helped me understand exactly what it was that I was dealing with.
Discover a proven solution for overcoming panic attacks
Here's what I found seeing my doctor in regards to panic attacks provided me:
Guidance. He described what panic attacks were, treatment options that were available, and what he thought the best approach was for the treatment of my panic attacks.
Advice. My doctor answered my questions in regards to panic attacks, helping me understand them better, and helping reassure me that there is a lot that can be done for them in terms of treatment.
Referral to a counselor. My doctor's referral to a counselor was great. I had previously never received any sort of counseling, and found the process to be immensely helpful -- mostly in terms of becoming more effective at work while learning to cope with stress. I also learned coping techniques for panic attacks, and not to fear panic attacks.
Prescription medication. My doctor was able to provide prescription medication specifically for panic attacks(SSRI's). The medication helped take the edge off of the panic attacks, and I used it while I learned about panic and anxiety and how to cope with it.
After being panic free for quite some time, and after I learned a great deal about panic attacks, I went back to my doctor and discussed the fact that I felt I no longer needed to take any SSRI medication for the panic attacks themselves.
At that point my doctor lowered my dosage, and advised me on a way of how to come off of the medication gradually.
