There are medical panic attack remedies available from psychotherapy to medications. For this article, however, we shall focus on the natural methods for many reasons. On one hand, the natural methods are free, affordable and doable on your own and, hence, save plenty of time, effort and money on doctor visits and medicines. On the other hand, these natural ways have little to no side effects when used properly as a cure for panic attacks.
The first natural cure for panic attacks, of course, is to help yourself. In the final analysis, it is your strong commitment, or the lack thereof, to your treatment that will make the difference between failure and success.
There are many ways with which self-help can be performed, of which a few of the most effective are the following:
Perform deep breathing exercises, which have been proven to counteract the symptoms of panic attacks. Your heart rate will slow down as you slowly inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth, all while concentrating on nothing but the way air is rushing through your system.
Think positive thoughts of the present instead of thinking about the unchangeable past and the uncontrollable future. You are still alive, you are still breathing and you are still on Earth, all of which are things to be happy about. Plus, it helps to surround yourself with supportive and positive people since they, too, can affect your moods.
Adopt a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle. Panic attacks, after all, are also precipitated by what we eat and do.
One of the unlikely but very effective natural panic attack remedies is humor. Or to put it another way, you should try to laugh as much as possible especially when you feel a panic attack coming on.
Studies have discovered that laughter releases hormones that counteract the stress hormones known as adrenaline and cortisol. Thus, when you laugh, you are lowering the levels of these stress hormones that leads to a more relaxed body. Your mind will follow suit, too. Besides, when you laugh over a joke, you have no time to think about your fears.
You may benefit from joining laughter yoga classes. Your panic attacks will lessen in frequency and severity, thanks to the mental health benefits of laughter.
Last but not least of the cure for panic attack remedies, you should consider herbal preparations like teas as well as herbal activities like aromatherapy. These methods are definitely worth a try especially with their significant anecdotal evidence.
You can try soothing herbs like chamomile, linden and oat straw to calm down your senses. To help you sleep better, drink valerian, hops and skull cap teas before going to bed while passion flower is great for anxiety attacks during the daytime. You should even go for relaxing massages involving herbal preparations.
Just make sure that when you are taking these oral herbal preparations that you have consulted your doctor about them especially when you are on medication for an unrelated disorder. Although herbs are generally safe to use, you want to avoid any side effects from the harmful mixing of medications with certain herbs.
When combined, these panic attack remedies are as effective as medical intervention although many do combine the two treatment options.
