How To Deal With Panic Attacks

Wondering How To Deal With Panic Attacks? These Techniques Can Help. If you cope with panic attacks, then you may well have come to the point where you think there is just no way to stop your attacks. They just keep on coming with no end in sight but fortunately, there is some good news - it is possible to not only stop panic attacks, but to get rid of them once and for all. Keep reading to learn about a few of the ways you can do this.

Stopping the fear

Of course, it is easier said than done, but the first thing to do is to stop the fear. One way to do this is to face up to them and stop letting them have power over you. Panic attacks, after all, are caused by fear. These fears may have a basis in reality or be wholly irrational but no matter what it is that's making you afraid, you have to stare them down and stop allowing them to cause you the anxiety that leads to panic attacks.

When your anxiety levels get too high, your mind gets caught up in a spiral of fear and before long, you begin feeling the physical symptoms which precede a panic attack: vertigo and difficulty breathing. When you start feeling these symptoms, it tends to take your anxiety to a higher level and a panic attack quickly results.

Avoiding triggers

Another strategy to try if you're wondering how to deal with panic attacks is to avoid the objects and situations which tend to bring on a panic attack. Avoiding your fears is often easier than facing up to them. It's not always possible to do this of course, but in some situations it may be a better alternative than trying to desensitize yourself to your triggers. If you're not feeling ready to take on your fears head to head yet, this is a technique worth trying.

When you avoid the things which cause you anxiety and trigger your panic attacks, you can prevent them from happening in the first place. Since the attacks come when you're feeling anxiety over a certain situation or object, then keeping well away from these triggers can help.

Breathe deep

During a panic attack, it's common to have trouble breathing. When you're finding it difficult to breathe, it tends to make the panic attack all that much worse.

If you're having a panic attack, you can help to reduce the severity of the attack or even stop it altogether by keeping control over your breathing. Take slow, deep breaths - this gives you more oxygen which helps you to stay calm. This method can even prevent a panic attack from happening if done when you feel one coming on.

Relaxation techniques

Along with breathing deeply, you can calm yourself down and keep a lid on your anxiety by using techniques like yoga, meditation, tai chi and getting regular massages.

These are only a few things to try when you're wondering how to deal with panic attacks. Don't be afraid to try out different things to find what works best for you and makes you calm, relaxed and able to get rid of panic attacks for good.
