Panic attack signs can be difficult to distinguish. You may not even realize you are having panic attacks until you go to the doctor to find out why you are having frequent disturbing symptoms.
Panic attacks are more common than you might think. They can strike you when you are driving, shopping at the grocery store, cooking, or walking in the park. You can experience signs at anytime because panic attacks can hit you anywhere and anytime, no matter what you are doing. This can be frightening, especially if you do not even realize panic attacks are the cause of your symptoms.
Panic attack signs can actually vary among people. Even so, there are many signs and symptoms that are commonly experienced. Some of these are a racing heart rate, cold sweats, dizziness, diarrhea, and trouble breathing. You can see that with symptoms like these, it is easy to think you have a very different medical condition and you may not know that anxiety and panic attacks are the cause.
Symptoms of panic attack start suddenly, and usually end rather quickly. You can be going about activities of daily life and feel fine when all of a sudden your heart begins to race and you feel a panic attack coming on. Panic attacks come without warning, but thankfully, they tend to only last several minutes.
Because symtoms come and go, and they seem to be symptoms of some other condition, it is easy to just ignore panic attacks the first few times they occur. When one strikes, you may stop to rest and wonder what is causing your symptoms but since they clear up so quickly and then you feel fine, it is easy to forget about them and go about your business. When panic attacks happen frequently, you begin to see a pattern and realize that something is definitely wrong.
People who suffer from panic attacks usually go to the doctor because they think they have some other problem, like maybe a heart condition. It is hard to believe that thoughts could cause such intense physical symptoms. However, that is the basis behind the attacks - anxiety and fear. These emotions can have just cause or they can be imagined and still cause panic attacks.
To lessen the severity of your panic attack, or to rid yourself of them completely, you need to pinpoint the cause of your anxiety. That may be easier said than done. Sometimes, anxiety can be generalized, without a specific cause. You may not even know why you feel anxious and fearful, yet you experience occasional or frequent panic attacks. Other times, you may be certain of the cause. In either case, you should talk to your doctor about your panic attacks so you can receive treatment that will help you learn to live with the panic attack signs or overcome them completely.
