Panic Attacks and Alcohol

How do panic attacks and alcohol influence one another?

Well, alcohol is a depressant, and the consumption of it can increase anxiety levels in people who experience anxiety.

Of course there is the saying "everything in moderation" and this is likely true.

However, in my experience, abstaining from alcohol was very helpful while I was receiving treatment for panic attacks.

If a person is being treated for panic attacks with prescribed medications, many of those medications suggest that alcohol should not be consumed at all.

Alcohol consumption, especially binge drinking, can increase anxiety.

Discover a proven solution for overcoming panic attacks

The day after a night of heavy drinking could be particularly challenging for someone who's experienced panic attacks. It certainly was for me.

Let's think about it logically for a second. People with panic attacks and anxiety symptoms can tend to focus on physical symptoms and have anxiety over them, right?

Well if that's the case, think of how a person feels after a night of drinking. Usually it's not well rested, calm, and relaxed.

So everything in moderation... but if you're experiencing panic attacks, you should to talk to your doctor about how much alcohol you normally consume within a week, and gather his/her thoughts as to the possible impacts this consumption might have on your panic attacks.

Your doctor should be able to provide you with some advice in regards to alcohol consumption. Both in regards to general health, as well as whether or not you should be consuming alcohol while you're experiencing panic attacks.
