Panic Attacks During Pregnancy

Face Your Fear And Overcome Panic Attacks During Pregnancy

Panic attacks during pregnancy are more common than you might think. An expectant mother might have anxiety because of the excitement of having a new baby. Another mother might go into a panic because she was not planning to get pregnant. Many times, women worry about having a safe pregnancy and the health of the unborn baby.

With all the things that can go wrong with a pregnancy and delivery, it is no wonder so many women have panic attacks during pregnancy. This is especially true for women who have had a previous high risk pregnancy because there really is a risk of having problems with the current pregnancy. Women who have had miscarriages are also prone to feeling anxious and worried when pregnant. The mix of emotions and worry are enough to trigger panic attacks during pregnancy in just about any expectant mother.

Even women who have no real reason to worry can still easily get caught up in fear and panic when they are pregnant. This happens commonly among women who are pregnant for the first time and have fear of the unknown. hormonal changes that pregnant women go through can also trigger feelings of discomfort, confusion, and uneasiness. Occasional cramps, although common during pregnancy, can be enough to trigger feelings of panic since it is hard to know if they signal something serious or not.

Are you a natural worrier?

Panic attacks during pregnancy also arise when the moms to be already suffer from anxiety problems. Adding pregnancy to an existing panic disorder can make the anxiety even worse. Many women are natural born worriers and being pregnant provides them with a whole new set of things to worry about. If this is your situation and you are suffering with panic attacks, you may be better able to deal with them when you uncover the reasons behind your attacks.

Keeping a journal or diary

You could start by keeping a journal. Write down the things that you are worried about and what is causing you so much stress. You may have difficulty facing the things that are at the root of your anxiety. However, when you face the cause, it helps you get your anxiety attacks under control. Being pregnant, you probably have many things to do and feel like this is a waste of time. It is not though, because when you learn how to cope with your anxiety and stress, it will be beneficial for both you and your baby.

Exercise

Exercise is a great way to burn off stress and may even help you reduce your panic attacks during pregnancy. You should talk to your doctor about how much you should exercise, what type of exercise is best, and how intense your workouts should be. You probably have a huge appetite since you are pregnant but that doesn't mean you should eat whatever you want whenever you want. Not only will you feel better physically and mentally when you eat healthy foods, but you won't gain as much weight that you will have to take off when the baby is born.

There are ways to control panic attacks during pregnancy. Take the time to dig deep and face the fears that are causing you so much anxiety and stress. Be patient with yourself and try not to worry so much. Pregnancy can be one of the most wonderful times in your life. Don't let anxiety and panic attacks ruin this time for you.
