Modern science has been able to show a correlation between lack of sleep and and increase in anxiety, especially in people who may experience anxiety on a regular basis.
In my own experience, lack of sleep influenced panic attacks significantly.
If I lacked the sleep I required, panic attacks while sleeping would be triggered a little more easily.
I even had a couple of night panic attacks (Also known as a Nocturnal Panic Attack).
Once I learned how the influence of sleep and panic attacks, I did the best I could to get a good 8 hours of sleep each night.

Getting a good night's sleep on a regular basis can go a long way in terms of sleep panic attacks, and it can help you do better at work, school, with sports and other physical activites.
However, lack of sleep on the other hand can affect areas of your life including things such as memory function, concentration, and emotions, in a negative way.
Everyone will experience the odd late night where they only sleep for a few hours. This is usually no big deal. However, chronic sleep deprivation is a concern.
Habits make us the people that we are. It's probably a good idea to have healthy ones -- starting with good sleep habits.
